About Me

My name is Laiba Naeem, and I am a dedicated biochemist, researcher, and community health professional with a strong academic background and practical experience in biomedical research, clinical diagnostics, and public health initiatives. I completed my BS (Hons) in Biochemistry from the University of Veterinary and Animal Sciences (UVAS), Lahore, with a CGPA of 3.76/4.00, and recently completed my M.Phil. in Biochemistry from the same institution with a CGPA of 3.67/4.00. My research interests focus on antimicrobial resistance, nanobiotechnology, infectious diseases, and clinical biochemistry. During my M.Phil. studies, I conducted research on the antibacterial activity of Tinospora cordifolia plant extract-loaded chitosan nanoparticles against multidrug-resistant Salmonella Typhi. This work involved the synthesis and characterization of nanoparticles using advanced analytical techniques such as UV-Visible Spectroscopy, Fourier Transform Infrared Spectroscopy (FTIR), and Scanning Electron Microscopy (SEM). I also evaluated their antimicrobial efficacy using microbiological and biochemical approaches, including antimicrobial susceptibility testing, minimum inhibitory concentration determination, and bacterial culture techniques. In addition to my postgraduate research, I worked as a Research Assistant in an enzyme biotechnology project, where I gained valuable experience in enzyme immobilization, optimization of reaction conditions, and biochemical assay development. Currently, I am serving as a Research Associate at UVAS, contributing to RSTMH- and HEC-funded projects focused on infectious diseases and antimicrobial resistance among pediatric populations. My responsibilities include biological sample collection, laboratory analysis, antimicrobial resistance testing, and participation in community awareness programs. To strengthen my clinical and diagnostic expertise, I completed an internship at the Pathology Laboratory of Fatima Jinnah Medical College, Lahore. During this training, I gained hands-on experience in microbiology, hematology, and clinical chemistry. I worked with various diagnostic procedures including microbial culture and identification, complete blood count analysis, biochemical assays, and quality control practices in laboratory settings. This experience enhanced my understanding of the practical applications of biochemistry in disease diagnosis and patient care. Alongside my academic and research activities, I have extensive experience in humanitarian and community development work. For more than six years, I have been associated with Shauoor Welfare Foundation, where I currently serve as Senior Project Coordinator in the Medical Department. In this role, I supervise medical support programs for hundreds of vulnerable families, coordinate healthcare interventions, monitor patient progress, and develop community health awareness initiatives. This position has strengthened my leadership, communication, project management, and problem-solving abilities. Throughout my academic journey, I have been recognized for excellence through prestigious scholarships, including the HEC Undergraduate Scholarship and PEEF Postgraduate Scholarship. I have also actively participated in scientific conferences, workshops, and awareness campaigns related to antimicrobial resistance, bioinformatics, research methodology, and public health. My long-term goal is to contribute to the fields of clinical biochemistry, infectious disease research, and academia through innovative research, teaching, and community engagement. I am passionate about applying scientific knowledge to address real-world health challenges and improving healthcare outcomes through evidence-based solutions and interdisciplinary collaboration.

Teaching Experience

Although I have not held a formal lecturer or teaching appointment, I have substantial experience in academic mentoring, laboratory training, and community education. During my M.Phil. and research projects, I guided junior students in laboratory techniques and research practices. I have also organized and delivered awareness sessions on antimicrobial resistance, public health, and social responsibility. These experiences have strengthened my communication, presentation, and teaching skills and prepared me for future academic and instructional roles.
